It's time to celebrate 4th of July!
In honor of the holiday, we're featuring music and movies that inspire salutes to Old Glory. Take some time to watch and listen, then write comments about your faves.
Songs that inspire
Some songs are so patriotic that they can bring a tear to the eye of even the toughest character. Check out some of our favorites.
"The Star-Spangled Banner"
by Jimi Hendrix
Songs don't have to be sappy to be moving. Sometimes they can totally rock your socks off. Jimi Hendrix proved that at Woodstock in 1969, when he made history with a soul-shredding guitar performance of the national anthem.

"God Bless America"
by Irving Berlin
Written in 1918, this song evoked so much American pride that people petitioned to make it the national anthem. As the attacks unfolded on 9/11, members of Congress broke out into a spontaneous rendition on the steps of the Capitol building.

"This Land Is Your Land"
by Woodie Guthrie
Complacent. That's what Guthrie thought of "God Bless America." So in 1940, he wrote one of America's most poignant folk songs. Nearly 70 years later, Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen performed "This Land Is Your Land" at President Obama's 2009 inauguration.

Movies we love
Some movies might make you laugh. Others make you cry. Then there are the ones that make you want to stand up, cheer, and join the fight. These three do it all.

Independence Day • 1996
With cheesy dialogue and a ridiculous storyline,Independence Day could have easily fallen into sci-fi obscurity. But it just goes to show that, no matter the enemy, groundbreaking special effects and over-the-top rallying cries conquer all, especially at the box office.

Forrest Gump • 1994
He might not be a smart man, but he sure can run. From dodging bullets while saving his comrades to defending his lady at a Black Panther party, Forrest Gump surprised everyone and stole our hearts.

Top Gun • 1986
A little camaraderie and a lot of cockiness. That's what it takes to be the best. Though the testosterone and hair product are overflowing in Top Gun, everyone feels safer knowing that Maverick and Ice Man are on our side.
