Citizen Advocacy to Save the Nation from “Chicago-Style” Politics
This week the second Illinois Governor in a row was convicted. Rod Blagojevich tried to talk his way past his own profane recorded words but the jury saw through it and found that he had, in fact, plotted to sell Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder.
Chicago-style politics also brought us a deceptively marketed national healthcare law that trampled on Constitutional limits of federal powers and which, at the end of the day, was enacted over the objections of a majority of American citizens. We can’t let this become the norm in America.
Strong arm politics and cutting corners may be politics-as-usual in Chicago where Mr. Obama’s former chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel is now Mayor but it cannot be allowed to take root in the Land of the Free. As Patrick Henry once said, “"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people; it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -- lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."
Our citizen advocacy comes into its own shortly after we pause as a nation to celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. How fitting that more than a million citizen petitions begin being hand-delivered to Senate Democrats demanding relief from an overreaching federal government and elected officials who deliberately ignored the people they represent.
On the heels of our petition deliveries and strong message to Senators we will ask all those who support this campaign to take extra steps to make our message clear and unmistakable to Senators. We will ask all those willing to use a fax service we are setting up to send messages day and night to Senate offices demanding repeal. Later this summer and going into the autumn months we will make possible toll-free calls to Senate offices.
As a nation we have slipped off the path of “consent of the governed”, our most precious guarantee of the role of the citizen in determining the path of our country. This misstep cannot be allowed to take root or Independence Day will be reduced to just fireworks without meaning. Ours was a great experiment in liberty and self-determination, envied and copied around the world. Now it falls to us, the citizens of this great nation, to restore this promise and preserve our freedoms for ourselves and those who follow us.

Keeping Count on the Lies
We all remember Barack Obama’s scolding critics, “If you like your insurance you can keep it. Period.” And in the next breath, “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. Period.” Turns out both promises are false with recent studies predicting that 30-50% of employers’ will drop employee healthcare coverage and force employees into government run health exchanges. So much for keeping your own doctor or insurance coverage.
The promises made about the cost of ObamaCare have proven to be equally false. As Richard S. Foster, the Chief Actuary of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, said in the 2010 Medicare trustees report’s, “Statement of Actuarial Opinion”, “Overriding the productivity adjustments, as Congress has done repeatedly in the case of physician payment rates, would lead to far higher costs for Medicare in the long range than those projected under current law.”
“For these reasons, the financial projections shown in this report for Medicare do not represent a reasonable expectation for actual program operations in either the short range) or the long range.”
We now know, in fact, that ObamaCare will cost the nation more than a trillion dollars in new debt and that estimate may be low. In the last week a new truth emerged: one provision of the law that Nancy Pelosi quipped had to be passed so we could know what’s in it, allows middle class families to get free Medicaid services when the retire early. Initial estimates project an extra trillion dollar cost to ObamaCare!
The same Medicare official predicted that seniors will be unable to find doctors accepting Medicare if a planned shift of half a trillion dollars from Medicare to ObamaCare goes through.
In short, we won’t keep our own doctors, it will far more expensive than we were told, seniors will suffer and the national debt will skyrocket. Add in the fgac that the Congressional Budget Office predicts that 800,000 Americans will simply quit their jobs to obtain free healthcare services and ObamaCare represents not just lies but damned lies that will badly hurt the nation and its citizens.
Recent Supreme Court Decision Has ObamaCare Implications
A recent unanimous court case foretells problems for Mr. Obama’s “signature issue”. In a case unrelated to healthcare, the court held without dissent that the federal government cannot expand its powers beyond those that are specifically “enumerated” in the Constitution. Requiring every citizen to purchase healthcare insurance is just such an expansion and currently being argued at federal appeals courts.
The Court wrote: "By denying any one government complete jurisdiction over all the concerns of public life, federalism protects the liberty of the individual from arbitrary power. When the government acts in excess of its lawful powers, that liberty is at stake."
Tidbits from Repeal It Now on FacebookSenate Democrats should remember the words of the late and highly respected senior Senator from New York, Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan: "Somehow liberals have been unable to acquire from life what conservatives seem to be endowed with at birth: namely, a healthy skepticism of the powers of government agencies to do good." Heed his words and repeal.
Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming: “With the sky-rocketing debt that we’re facing in this country, and 9.1 percent unemployment, this Administration’s signature piece of legislation discourages America’s best and brightest from starting new businesses and providing for their employees." 47 Republican Senators have voted to repeal. We need four more votes.
ObamaCare ushers in brand new powers for the federal government where Washington can tell us what to buy--upon penalty of law. This funds the government takeover of 17% of our economy. 16,000 new IRS agents hold the hammer. State's rights? Forget about it. States either cut everything else to expand Medicaid or get cut off entirely. Repeal is about more than bad policy, it's about who we are.
How Can You Help?
Repeal It Now is a non-profit campaign that is entirely funded by grassroots petition signers and supporters of immediate repeal. No funds are accepted from businesses with any interest in the healthcare system. This is a grassroots citizen's campaign. Every dollar contributed goes into gathering millions of petitions to put pressure on Washington officials to vote for repeal.
The TV ads funded by our supporters serve three primary goals:
1. To raise so many American voices for Repeal that even tone deaf politicians will finally hear and respect the will of the American people. We are calling for repeal of legislation never approved by a majority of citizens.
