If spring lawn care is about getting your lawn healthy and green, summer lawn care is about keeping it that way. It can be hard work maintaining your lawn after all those barbecues, parties, and running feet that summer has to offer. Here are some tips for keeping your lawn lush and healthy over those long, dog days of summer.
Lawn Repair
The summer months can mean real trouble for your lawn. It will take a lot of damage control to keep your lawn looking the way you want it. Your lawn can be threatened by weeds, heat, pests, and yes, even pet waste. If you think your lawn is too far gone to bring back to life, think again. A little TLC can go a long way in reviving your lawn, even in the dead of summer.
Watering
One of the most common mistakes is inadequate watering. Proper watering can be the difference between life and death for your lawn. For optimal results you'll want to water once a day, preferably in the early morning. If you don't like waking up at the crack of dawn to water your lawn you might want to consider installing sprinklers.
Mowing
If you didn't sharpen your lawn mower blades in the spring, this will be the first thing you should do. Sharp blades will cut your lawn cleanly rather than tearing it. You'll also want to adjust the height of of the blades on your lawn mover. If you cut the grass too low, this can cause permanent damage to the grass. By maintaining a taller lawn in the summer, you deter weed growth and allow the grass to root deeper into the soil. When you want it done right...DoItYourself.com
